TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH offers IECEx certification from a single source. To be able to do so, the laboratory based in Filderstadt, Germany, required accreditation under the IECEx certification scheme. IECEx certification enables international approval to be issued for machinery and equipment to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The IECEx procedure of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) facilitates the global approval of explosion-proof products. Since 2016, the scope of the IECEx system has been expanded to include non-electrical products in addition to electrical machinery, equipment, components and assemblies. “TÜV SÜD already held accreditation as an IECEx Certification Body”, says Arno Butzke, explosion protection expert at TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. “Now the accreditation of our laboratory in Filderstadt allows us to offer all testing and certification services according to IECEx from a single source and operate as a full-service provider, supporting manufacturers even more effectively in launching their products on global markets.” The IECEx scheme can also be used as a basis for approvals under the EU ATEX Directive. “This saves time and costs”, emphasizes Arno Butzke. In addition, a valid IECEx certificate and the pertinent test report (ExTR – Explosion Protection Test Report) are also prerequisites for further international approvals, such as those under the Hazardous Locations Scheme for the US market.
