TÜV SÜD Product Service UK has launched a Wi-Fi test and certification service to meet the requirements of the new IEEE 802.11ac standard for wireless equipment operating in the 5GHz band.
According to an In-Stat report, devices using 802.11ac will reach nearly one billion by 2015, providing extremely fast wireless local area networks. The new specification will deliver to end-users eight times the speed of previous networks, enabling simultaneous streaming of high-definition videos to multiple devices and faster mobile app performance.
This investment in new test equipment will enable TÜV SÜD Product Service UK to cover the entire bandwidth spectrum, as well as the latest devices using the 802.11ac specification. The new test and certification service will also cover multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) functionality. MIMO technologies are used by devices that operate on the 5GHz band to exploit multiple radio terminals to enhance communication capabilities.

TÜV SÜD’s dedication to offering the highest levels of testing capability meant that we immediately invested in a solution, enabling us to provide services for the new 5GHz specification. This has allowed innovative manufacturers already developing such devices to take their products to market faster and to exploit their first-mover competitive advantage.”
The service also meets the new ETSI (European Telecommunications Institution) requirements for electromagnetic capability for 5GHz broadband wireless networks products (EN 301 893 v1.7.1).
