TÜV SÜD’s new service will help manufacturers, suppliers, developers and integrators to comply with the license requirements of the Bluetooth SIG, while minimising time to market.
Compliance approval ensures that all products are correctly qualified, and allows the Bluetooth trademark to be applied. If a client has device compatibility concerns, TÜV SÜD can also offer an extended service to enhance the scope of interoperability testing through device-to-device test plans.
Dan Ralley, RF Engineer at TÜV SÜD Product Service, said: “The Bluetooth SIG qualification and declaration process provides end-users with confidence that a new product will be interoperable with existing and future Bluetooth devices. By using the new TÜV SÜD service, Bluetooth SIG members will benefit from a higher level of confidence that their products will complete the qualification and declaration processes satisfactorily, and in an efficient timescale that allows them to deliver products in an extremely competitive market.”
The TÜV SÜD service includes:
- Bluetooth SIG qualification testing services for RF, protocol and profile layer testing. Ensuring that the product remains compliant to the Bluetooth SIG specifications, for new designs, modifications or enhancements.
- Device-to-device testing to validate or uncover any interoperability bugs with other end products.
- Analysis of protocol/packet sniffer/wireshark logs, to identify potential protocol problems and support debugging these issues, as well as guidance on how to perform debug logs.
- SIG declaration and listing support, to ensure that the Bluetooth compliant designs and associated products are declared and listed correctly.
The Bluetooth SIG ensures that products comply with the Bluetooth license agreements, to promote product interoperability and ensure stability of the Bluetooth brand. Bluetooth enabled products are also subject to radio, EMC and safety conformance requirements, such as the Radio Equipment Directive in the European Union, and FCC Certification in the United States. TÜV SÜD is able to provide a holistic solution for the full range of related test and certification requirements.
Dan concludes: “The Bluetooth market is growing exponentially, and is one of the most widely used technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT), with the Bluetooth SIG working with suppliers and manufacturers to expand into all sectors of the IoT to capture the key market growth areas. TUV has invested heavily in solutions to optimise quality and compliance within the IoT industries. This has allowed us to extend our service offering to enhance the interoperability of Bluetooth connected devices.”
The Bluetooth SIG trademark licence agreement states that any member who intends to sell, brand, or rebrand with the Bluetooth word or logo must complete the Bluetooth SIG declaration process and adhere to the brand guidelines. The patent and copyright licence agreement states that any member who intends to use compliant Bluetooth enabled technology in their product should complete the declaration process. The Bluetooth SIG have enforcement processes to ensure that Bluetooth branded products are qualified correctly in accordance with the SIG’s qualification programme.
