On 17 March 2014, the Venezuelan Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Electricity published Joint Resolution No. 19 and No. 126, approving the technical regulations on energy efficiency labelling of fluorescent lamps. It provides for energy efficiency labelling and testing requirements for compact, linear and circular fluorescent lamps. The technical regulation will enter into force on 17 September 2014.
Article 5 prohibits the import, manufacture or marketing of fluorescent lamps that do not meet the energy efficiency requirements set out in Tables 1, 2 & 3 and which do not fall within energy efficiency classes A, B or C.
To verify compliance with the energy efficiency technical requirements, the following testing standards should be used: IEC 60969:2001, IEC 60901:2001, IEC 60081:2002 and CIE 84:1989. Furthermore, the mercury content of compact fluorescent lamps must not exceed 5mg. For linear and circular fluorescent lamps the mercury content must not exceed 8mg.
In addition to energy efficiency labelling, fluorescent lamps must also include the following information on the product packaging:
- Manufacturer mark/brand
- Country of origin
- Mercury content
- Final disposal information
