After the public consultation in September 2014, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recommended 15 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) to the European Commission (EC) on 1 July 2015. This is the 6th recommendation [1,2] from the ECHA for inclusion of substances in the Authorisation List (Annex XIV).
The total number of SVHCs proposed during the public consultation was 22. After considering the opinions from the public consultation and its capacity to handle Authorisation applications, the ECHA now recommends 15 SVHCs to the European Commission (EC) as shown in Table 1. Table 2 shows the 7 SVHCs which were not recommended by the ECHA.
The EC will decide whether to adopt the recommendation from the ECHA and include those substances in the Annex XIV. The
REACH Annex XIV will be amended accordingly and the amendment will be published in Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). However, the 5th patch of recommended SVHCs is still at the final stage and the amendment has not been published.
The current Annex XIV contains 31 substances. The number of SVHC will soon grow to 36 upon publishing of the amendment.
