On 25 September 2017, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a final rule to extend1 the compliance dates for the Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products final rule2 issued in the Federal Register on 12 December 2016, as follows.
|The date for the emission standards, recordkeeping, and labeling provisions||12 December 2017||12 December 2018|
|The date for import certification provisions||12 December 2018||22 March 2019|
|The date for laminated product producer provisions||12 December 2023||22 March 2024|
|The conclusion of the transition period for CARB Third-Party Certifiers (TPCs)||12 December 2018||22 March 2019|
The above extension of compliance dates will take effect on 25 October 2017.
EPA believes that this extension adds regulatory flexibility for regulated entities, reduces compliance costs, and minimises disruptions to supply chains.
