On 29 June 2017, Brazilian Ministries approved together Interministerial Portaria MME/MCTI/MDIC No. 2 on ceiling fans MEPS requirements. The Portaria specifies the essential energy efficiency requirements of ceiling fans, domestically manufactured, imported or to be traded or used in Brazil.
Article 4 of Annex I states that ceiling fans labelling shall contain the energy efficiency requirement of 0,013 (m3/min/W) at low speed and 0,016 (m3/min/W) at medium or high speeds in a legible and visible position.
Article 5 specifies conformity assessment mechanism for minimum levels of energy efficiency verification characterized by the Supplier Statement with a focus on the Product performance and certified by the National Label of Energy Conservation – ENCE.
Article 6 and 7 provides information on the accredited laboratories that are responsible for testing the energy efficiency of ceiling fans.
Article 8 requires importers of ceiling fans to demonstrate compliance with the minimum energy efficiency standards while obtaining the import license.
The Portaria is effective from 30 August 2017. Compliance deadlines for manufacturing, importation and marketing are defined in Table 2: 12 months for manufacturing and importation, 20 months for marketing by manufacturers and importers, and 26 months for marketing by wholesalers and retailers.
