TÜV SÜD cooperates in supporting the creation of a Green & Smart City in Iran
The Iranian city of Parand New Town is to become a showcase for green and smart technology in urban development. The satellite town is located 35 kilometres south-west of Tehran. The project is under the common management of Iranian Maharem Group and TÜV SÜD and is being realised by German and Iranian companies. TÜV SÜD's role is to make sure that Green City standards are applied and observed.
The satellite town of Parand New Town was founded in 1990. It currently has 180,000 inhabitants over an area of around 2,200 hectares. The city is planned to grow further to an overall population of up to 480,000 people. In the course of this growth, Parand New Town is to develop into Iran’s first ‘Green & Smart City’ by using sustainable and smart technologies and the available infrastructure. The project serves as a role model. The experience gained there will be transferred to other cities to improve the quality of life of populations in large conurbations and reduce environmental pollution.
Under the leadership of the Maharem Group, high-profile Iranian and German companies are involved in the realisation of this sophisticated project. As an exclusive partner of Maharem Group, TÜV SÜD will make sure that Parand New Town applies and observes the approved international Green City standards. “I am very excited that we can contribute our experience in the development of urban infrastructure and Green Cities to support the further development of Parand New Town to a ‘Green & Smart City’”, says Karsten Xander, Member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG. In the first phase of the project, experts from the international provider of testing and certification services are planning to create the feasibility study for the project and to provide support in developing a master plan for the city.
