Independent support for water and sanitation technologies
TÜV SÜD presents its comprehensive services as independent technology and business process advisor for water and sanitation technologies at the 18th African Water Association International Congress and Exhibition from 22 to 25 February 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. The experts of TÜV SÜD are known not only for their comprehensive knowledge about technologies and standards, but also for their deep understanding of the situation in developing countries (German Water Partnership, Booth B2/B3/C6/C7).
TÜV SÜD has a long standing history as independent quality, safety, and sustainability solutions provider. The experts contribute significantly to ensuring the safety and reliability of innovative technologies and solutions for various sectors. “At TÜV SÜD Water Services our focus in on the realization of policy decisions as a partner to implementing complex water and sanitation projects”, says Gerald Kresta, Assistant Vice President at TÜV SÜD Water Services in Singapore. “Our multidisciplinary teams will work end-to-end from decision making to implementation to operations excellence.”
An example of how TÜV SÜD can support improved water delivery is the development of a tailored best practice ‘User Guideline for Water Meters’ intended for water utilities in an East African country. The utilities had tremendous issues with non-revenue water (more than 40%). Due to unreliable metering there was high drinking water wastage and lower revenue. The nationwide losses due to non-revenue water in 2014 were estimated approximately US$ 52 million. “The new Guideline covered technical specifications, leading procurement practices and installation, calibration protocols to ensure sustained improvement through proper deployment and regular maintenance”, says Gerald Kresta. It was based on field visits and consultation with user groups to understand the challenges and needs. The result was an adaptation of leading global protocols and standards to meet the specific needs of local utilities.
