Gold award for TÜV SÜD: Anniversary communication concept, “150 Years of Inspiring Trust”, is voted best cross-media publication of the year
TÜV SÜD AG's multi-media communication concept, “150 Years of Inspiring Trust”, won the gold medal at the BCM Award, Europe’s biggest competition for corporate publications. The award elevates the corporate publication, comprising a book and an array of digital content, to the status of best new cross-media communication project of the last 12 months. Besides, a silver medal was won in the category “Best International Communication Concept”. TÜV SÜD created the publication to accompany its 150th anniversary celebrations in 2016.
Matthias Andreesen Viegas, Head of Corporate Communications, and Jörg Riedle, Publication Manager TÜV SÜD, joined the team of TERRITORY G+J Corporate Editors agency, to accept the award on 16 June 2016 at a gala event in Hamburg. “Our cross-media publication builds strongly on digital media in addition to print. It very deliberately adopts a future-oriented perspective”, says Matthias Andreesen Viegas. “Digital transformation is among TÜV SÜD's focus topics for the future. We ensure data security in Industry 4.0 and have set ourselves the objective of minimising the risks involved in global connectivity. Taking up this subject, our anniversary publication demonstrates our company's expertise in this area.”
The heart of the publication is a 'Jubilee Book'. It recounts TÜV SÜD's historical development in 150 individual chapters and focuses on the company’s diverse and international presence. “The central idea of the concept is not merely to provide a retrospective, but instead to present the company as an enabler of societal progress”, explains Jörg Riedle, who oversaw the project. “TÜV SÜD has left its mark on virtually all major technological developments since 1866. Its services have made technological innovation safer, and paved the way for their acceptance and breakthrough.”
The book presents four phases of progress: “Being Bold”, “Learning from Failure”, “Becoming Better” and “Having A Vision”. Each chapter adopts many different perspectives as it traces the special challenges that obstruct the path of progress and describes how TÜV SÜD supports its partners in managing these challenges.
The Jubilee Book is part of an integrated media strategy developed jointly with TERRITORY G+J Corporate Editors. It is complemented by a microsite that continues the content of the book, providing additional texts, photo series, films and audio files. An app allows users to access this online content directly from the book.
The book also provides a starting-point for exploring augmented reality content designed for smart phones or tablets. For example, during a breakneck ride on the world's fastest roller coaster, the Formula Rossa in Abu Dhabi, readers learn how TÜV SÜD tested and inspected the safety of the plant. And a 360-degree panoramic visit to the Oslo Opera, one of the world's most modern theatres with cutting-edge technology, gives visitors a look behind the scenes at the sophisticated stage equipment certified by TÜV SÜD.
The anniversary publication, “150 Years of Inspiring Trust”, marks a further renowned award for excellent corporate publications for TÜV SÜD. The Annual Reports of 2013 and 2014, for example, came first and second in the Private Public Award for Germany's best annual reports. The company’s internal communication media likewise won several prizes in the Fox Awards and the international Astrid Awards.
