Find out how operators and owners of coal or gas-power plants to can extend the lifespan of their plants to meet future demands through a well-planned renovation and modernisation (R&M) process for turbines and boilers.
While energy producers around the world have recognised the need to adopt more efficient and sustainable energy sources to meet the demands of a growing population of consumers, the move to these new sources will not happen overnight.
Existing conventional power producers still have an important role to play during the transition to alternative sources of energy. Operators and owners of coal or gas-based power plants can extend the lifespan of their plants to meet future demands through a well-planned renovation and modernisation (R&M) process for turbines and boilers.
In these projects, stakeholders can minimise risk, save time and ensure cost efficiency through qualified advisory, evaluations and recommendations from an independent third-party solution provider.
TÜV SÜD has long-standing experience and in-depth knowledge in a wide range of conventional power plant projects as an owner’s engineer. This enables owners to make informed decisions throughout the turbine and boiler R&M process. TÜV SÜD’s services cover preparation of request for quotation (RFQ) and request for proposal (RFP) until finalisation of the successful bidder, including recommendation for bidders for placement of order for the R&M work. The project is supported by detailed collection of data and details on the existing unit, study of heat and mass balance diagrams (HMBD) for the present unit as well as the proposed design, as well as any other required alternations and favourable/adverse impact.
In line with the owner’s specifications and requirements, TÜV SÜD conducts inspections of boiler turbine generator (BTG) and other equipment, as well as review of various reports and studies. In preparation for tender bids, TÜV SÜD is responsible for preparation and finalisation of RFQ and RFP, freezing site specification, preparation of tender bid documents and other requirements. TÜV SÜD remains closely involved to support the entire bidding process, providing clarifications to bidders’ queries on technical and commercial issues, commenting on bidders’ offers, and making recommendations on technically acceptable bids. TÜV SÜD also offers evaluation of price bids and advises owners with recommendations on bidders for placement of orders.
