TÜV SÜD’s solutions
In 1995, Asklepios and the TÜV SÜD Food Safety Institute launched a ground-breaking partnership with the objective of improving the quality and safety of food served to patients. From humble beginnings involving kitchen checks for three clinics, that partnership has now grown to a comprehensive food safety inspection programme that includes almost 70 different Asklepios hospitals and clinics.
The Asklepios and TÜV SÜD partnership consists of a package of services that have been expressly designed to meet the company’s specific needs and requirements. Twice each year, auditors make unannounced visits to the company’s clinics to conduct hygiene inspections. At Asklepios’ main catering facilities, TÜV SÜD food safety experts thoroughly inspect every aspect of the company’s HACCP system including staff hygiene, location, equipment and products used. These inspections are complemented by microbiological analyses of foods and work surfaces that provide objective measures regarding hygiene status. TÜV SÜD hygiene experts also scrutinise regular maintenance cleaning operations in non-food related areas of the company’s clinics, focusing on patient-related areas and evaluating conditions as well as cleanliness.
These inspections extend well beyond the catalogue of specifications generally applied in the healthcare sector. In addition to evaluating a comprehensive roster of hygiene and quality aspects, TÜV SÜD inspectors also survey individual patients for their views on the clinic’s food services. These patient surveys provide an extremely reliable picture of how the food services are viewed by Asklepios’ patients.

The Quality Monitor is based on the use of modern mobile technology that enables TÜV SÜD inspectors to quickly capture data collected during audits and patient surveys. This unrivalled collection of information about the company’s actual performance can now be routinely and easily reviewed and analysed to identify potential areas for improvement and for new perspectives on quality, hygiene and safety policies and practices.
