On 17 March 2016, the Governor has signed the Bill HB 314 amending the current Bedding, Upholstered Furniture, and Quilted Clothing Inspection Act.
This amendment shall become effective from 10 May 2016.
The amendment of the bill includes definitions, licensing procedure, unlawful acts specified, tagging requirements for bedding, upholstered furniture and filling material and it added new requirements of sterilisation of filling material.
Some notable changes in this act are:
Manufacturers, retailers, or repairers are responsible to attach securely the tag to all bedding, upholstered furniture, and filling material.
This bill clarifies, all wool, feathers, down, shoddy, hair, or other materials must be sterilized before the material is used as filling material in new bedding, upholstered furniture, or quilted clothing."
If more than one type of filling material is used in an item, the percentage by weight of each component shall be listed in order of predominance. Earlier it was an additional option to list component by their weight.
